FIRE-RESISTANT LOFT LADDER
Our Fire-resistant loft ladders can withstand fire for 45 and 60 minutes. REI45 is 45 minutes and REI60 is 60 minutes.
They comply to EN 13501-2 Approval for Fire-resistant loft ladders. The trapdoor is insulated with a rockwool plate, which is made of non-combustible, moisture and water-repellent Rockwool stone wool. Hover to view available hatch sizes.

This is a close-up of our REI45 fire-resistant loft ladder with a comfortable steel ladder. The REI loft ladder-series complies with EN 13501-2. The trapdoor of a REI45 is insulated with a 50 mm non-combustible, moisture-resistant Rockwool stone wool plate. It features black fireproof sealant, a white HDF plate with a smooth finish, and hidden hinges. Our fire-resistant loft ladders are also available as Made-to-Measure loft ladders.
EUROPEAN FIRE CLASS - EN 13501-2
The European fire requirements are described from the loft ladders:
R (resistance): The loft ladder’s ability to maintain its load-bearing capacity during a fire.
E (integrity): The ability to prevent the passage of flames and gases.
I (insulation): The ability to limit the transfer of heat.
According to the classification, the DOLLE loft ladder is rated for fire resistance, capable of withstanding fire for either 45 or 60 minutes, depending on the model. This is indicated by the DOLLE REI 45/60 designation, where "REI 45" withstand fire for 45 minutes and "REI 60" withstand fire for 60 minutes.
The Loft Ladder as a Fireproof Component
It’s important that a house is constructed so that the structure is protected for a short time in the event of a fire. Therefore, building regulations set several requirements regarding the fire resistance of construction parts in a building or house, including a standard for loft ladders. We test our fire-resistant loft ladders according to the highest standards in Europe, and they comply with EN 13501-2.
A fire-resistant loft ladder is tested in a fire test where it is built into a fire chamber and exposed to a simulated real-life fire situation. DOLLE's fire-resistant loft ladders have been tested according to the new common European method for testing fire resistance of building components, known as REI. The fire-resistant loft ladders from DOLLE have been tested at the MPA Braunschweig institute in Germany.

FAQ Fire-Resistant loft ladders
We have a serie of fire-resistant loft ladders for our UK customers - REI 45 and Made-to-Measure models REI45 and REI60.
They have been tested according to the new European standard.
REI stands for:
R (resistance) carrying capacity during fire.
E (integrity) ability to keep flames and gases out.
I (insulation) ability to keep warmth out.
The "45" and "60" indicates the minutes for how long the loft ladder can withstand a fire. Hence the name DOLLE REI45 and REI60.
A fire-resistant loft ladder is specifically designed to limit the passage of heat, gases, and flames from passing through. Unlike standard loft ladders, fire-resistant models are constructed using materials and technologies that can withstand fire for a specified period, preventing flames, heat, and smoke from spreading between floors.
Yes, fire-resistant loft ladders are available for narrow spaces. We offer compact fire-resistant loft ladders models designed to fit tight or restricted areas without compromising on fire safety. These ladders maintain the same fire-resistance properties, such as heat, gas, and flame prevention, while being specially designed to suit smaller or non-standard loft openings.
